Please come out to the Hess Village Rally for the West Harbour, even if the point is kinda mute. According to that article by the spec, both the feds and province have basically refused to fund the harbour stadium people were choosing after they looked at the issue….Both the liberals and Conservative governments killed the West Harbour Stadium idea it seems but they also killed a lot of hope for downtown urban renewal………
…now comes the question, is Bob Young/ The Ti-Cats still helping Hamilton or just dragging us down? I’m sick of old thinking, I’m down for a new sports team! Some call it Football…….
Mean while in Burlington folks also againist the PanAm Carnage which plans to destroy a whole forest!!!! Strangley they don’t like all artifical grass replacing the natural environment? How strange? Wierd it seems all these artist types actually give a crap about their communities! Lindsay Holton to Matt Jelly! No wonder the arts are starved for funding you might actually get a decent society if they had decent resources!

First if you can attend this meeting tomorrow please do Hamilton needs you!!!!
Ok I offically want Matt Jelly to be Hamilton’s Next Mayor and no this isn’t a joke either. If you haven’t been following his progress as of late, he’s done garbage crawl, leading the opposition to the crazy stadium out in the farm hinterland and recently discovered/exposed a bunch of toxic dumps! WTF? isn’t that the city’s job? And that’s why I think he’s perfect for the job!
Mystery Toxic Barrels down on Hess and Stuart St, the spec wasn’t even nice enough to credit him!
Sure the picture below might as Bob Bratina might say “overweight” but he’s done more for this city this year then Bob or the rest of city council has!
Also check out the video on the bottom of this link!!!

I am seperating the messages just to make it easier for people to read….
As you may know, we are in the middle of our “Art is the New Steel” campaign. One of the members of The Print Studio’s Board has suggested we put on a good show in order to present our Practicing Artists in our Studio Membership base.
We are also going to be starting
The Print Studio newsletter back up – and a part of the newsletter will be a spotlight on a different Studio Member in each issue. It would be nice to have a page on the website as well, so this may eventually happen as well.
If you could please send me your Bio as well as 2-3 images of your work, it would be greatly appreciated and go towards helping out the campaign and promoting yourself and The Print Studio.
Send it back to the info email or to my personal email: paulakrochak@gmail.com , and I will pick it up in either place. If you can
send it ASAP – they are aiming to have this info ready to present for the end of July/beginning of August.

As you may or may not know, the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre is celebrating it’s double anniversary this year culminating in a special event September 11th to commemorate 15 years of operation for the WAHC and 150 years since the historic Custom House first opened its doors.
In recognition of this milestone, the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre is pleased to present a celebration of Workers pleasures and pastimes, or a “WAHC-Stravaganza,” inspired by Victorian fairs, carnivals, and other popular amusements. In the past, fairs and carnivals evoked ‘long anticipated pleasure’ and respite from the painstaking labour and long hours endured by the average worker. Looking to the many lives of the Custom House since it opened in 1860, and Hamilton’s rich industrial heritage, the event will draw on Victorian era amusements, family oriented activities, carnival games, community driven booths and live entertainment.
Right now, we are looking for some specific donations, or objects of interest we can borrow for this exciting event.

The debate as it stands now is the HCCP (or Hamilton Creative Catalyst Project) a worthy endevor to drawn in new industries/businesses and creative folks to the city. The idea is to build a buidling (or use a old one) which will create cross over oportunities to develop talent, jobs and projects. Much like a liberty village or many other similair places in Toronto work. The report interestingly enough points not to the standard “art” scene of James North,et al but more towards the music scene and the film industry as the big potential money makers/ talent draw for this endevor.
Some selected quotes from the final report “However, the City needs to have a vision of itself as a creative city and put the necessary supports in place to build on its success. A Creative Catalyst is one such support.”
“at least 75% .. of businesses will be paying market rate” (edited down).
It is my opinon that this project is placing the cultural industry on the Hamilton City Map, ie:new stadium this year, next year the HCCP. also this is future planing in consort with the new light rail and Pan Am Games. The city has to do this, why if it doesn’t sadly the “arts industry” will be a ram shackle of various venues and this will allow a single focus for outsiders to understand. In Toronto I can say Liberty Village and everyone knows its Toronto’s mini-silicon valley for better or worse. By having a “draw” like this it will increase Hamilton’s chances to grow physically downtown and creative wise. Much like my past statements on the SkyDragon/ Save SkyDragon, I may not entirely agree with their politics or ideas but I strongly recognize its importance in drawing people downtown, giving another voice to the downtown and creating jobs. Hamilton is too close to Toronto physically and it needs ways of retaining talent and also attracting it.
Bottom line, I support this project because it will help the creative art/industries and while it may not be perfect or to my exact ideal of what Hamilton should do it is a project that can be achieved and considering how much we give to Defasco or the Ticats, this is a no brainer project.
