The Printstudio- Tony Hafkenscheid -Life Models

Life Models showcases the strange and toy-like images of Toni Hafkenschied. Employing a tilt-shift lens and film that saturates colour, the artist transforms real-life, unedited landscapes into vibrant miniatures that recall the model train sets that fascinated him as a child. The staged quality of the resulting images effectively proposes that human life is a game. At the same time, it demonstrates the power we assert over the natural landscape, and indeed constructing these images makes Hafkenscheid “feel like God, with power over the world.”

Skydragon – Adrian Jeffery – The Nightmare Before Valentine’s Day
Description This exhibition consists of a series of figurative paintings in oil. The prevailing mood of the work is gothic and oneiric. That is, these images are motivated by themes touching on obsession, the haunting of the present by the past, power and submission in personal relationships, personal theatre, antagonism to the mundane and reasonable, transgression, irrationality, isolation, the mystery of the psyche, and identity. It has been said that “art is the unmasking of desire”. Perhaps too, it is the many masks that desire wears. The artist Adrian is the evil twin of Steven A. Jeffery, who lurks in the shadows, observing “life’s great pageant”. With music guests Martin Verrall and Raphael Keelan
Workers Arts and Heritage-Karen Tam -Chinese Fever: Liki-Liki
January 8 to May 8, 2010
Chinese Fever is an installation made up of gold paper-cutouts that would take over the gallery walls. Inspired by hand-painted export Chinese wallpaper, which was popular throughout Europe and North America in the 1700s, I hope to subvert some of these chinoiserie images with an undertone of indignation and violence, and to comment on current events and attitudes
